Lenten Prayer Chain

A fun way to countdown the days to Easter

A fun way to countdown the days to Easter during Lent is to have your kids make a Lenten prayer chain. It’s very simple and easy for kids to participate.

Supplies needed:

· 7 pieces of purple construction paper to make 40 purple strips.
· 1 piece of white construction paper to make 7 white strips.
· Tape, glue or stapler.

Directions:

1. Start with four purple strips then add one white strip (start with Ash Wednesday, each day is purple, except Sunday is white).
2. Then for every week following you’ll need six purple strips then one white strip.
3. You will need a total of 40 purple strips and 7 white strips.
4. If you’d like to write names of people to pray for or prayer requests on the strips you can do that then as your kids take a strip down each day you can pray for that person or request. Another idea is to write down an act of service or kindness, example pick up your neighbors newspaper off their lawn, or hold the door open for someone, whatever you would like to do as a family.
5. When your prayer chain construction is complete hang it somewhere accessible for your children to take a strip off each day starting on Ash Wednesday and ending on Easter Sunday.
