About Wendy K. Wallace-Wright

Author of “Advent with Kids”

My Story

Wendy, a native Californian, grew up in the church as a PK ( preacher’s kid).  She remembers bible stories as a young girl first taught to her on a one dimensional flannelgraph board in Sunday School.  As a teenager she attended weekly bible studies in youth group.  During her teens she sat on a committee planning an international youth convention for two thousand high school students and later on in her early years of college she was invited by church leaders to help write Sunday School curriculum.  Those early years were just the stepping stones of what would become her future.

After graduating from California State University of Long Beach, she met her husband, Roy Wright.  As newlyweds their jobs had them settled in the suburbs of Washington, DC where they started their family.   As a mother of young children she had the strong desire to raise her kids with the love and knowledge of Jesus Christ.  The church her young family attended taught Godly Play during Sunday School.  The lessons encouraged kids to interact and play with the lesson pieces to learn the language of God.  She liked the curriculum so much that she went through training and taught Godly Play for ten years at their church in DC. As her children grew, Wendy found ways to engage them during the liturgical seasons of the church year. From making Advent wreaths to birthday cakes for Jesus at Christmas,  to practicing self-discipline by giving something up or taking something on during Lent, to  eating red candy like hot tamales and fireball jawbreakers at Pentecost or doing service projects during the ordinary time of the church year.

When her godson was just two years old she woke early one morning  and with the nudge of the Holy Spirit wrote a little book on the biblical meaning of Christmas and added a few coloring pages. Sixteen years later she rewrote the book and made it more interactive with weekly liturgical readings and daily activities which are sensory based for the child to engage holistically with the lesson.   Her book, Advent with Kids, was just published in November, 2021 and is now available for purchase on Amazon and direct from Dorrance Publishers.

Now as a mother of two teenage children living in Charlotte, Wendy has found the intersection of combining her passion for writing and cultivating spiritual rhythms for her family into providing resources for others to create spiritual rhythms for their families.  She continues to write and conduct liturgical workshops for young children helping shape their spiritual formation.
