Gratitude Trees
Gratitude Trees
Now that we are in the season of fall and Thanksgiving is happening soon, it’s a great time to talk to your kids about what gratitude means. Gratitude means, to be thankful or grateful, ready to show appreciation and kindness to someone who has been kind and good to you.
Take time during your day as a family during your morning carpool to school or walking to the bus stop, or at breakfast or dinner, and ask your children what they are grateful for and in turn you share as well.
If a friend, or family member is mentioned, ask them what are some ways they can show they are grateful for them?
The bible has many great verses that tell us how to give thanks to God, let’s read Psalm 106:1:
Praise the Lord.
Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good;
his love endures forever
What are some ways that you as a family can give thanks to God and show him your gratitude?
Craft idea: Make a Gratitude Tree. Begin by printing out the Bible verses on the next page. Have your children cut the verses out. Then glue bible verses onto felt or fake leaves that you have purchased ahead of time. You can make as many leaves and bible verses for the number of days from today until Thanksgiving. The leaves wil need to be hole punched forl string to go through to later hang on tree. A fun part of this activity is to have your kids go outside and pick up the number of sticks from your front/back yard for the number of bible verses you print and cut out. Or maybe you have an artificial tree at home that you can use. Have your children put the sticks in a vase or mason jar. Each day during the month of November leading up to Thanksgiving, have your children pull out a leaf from their pile and read the bible verse then hang onto sticks in vase/jar or on their tree. By the time Thanksgiving arrives they should have a beautiful gratitude tree on display at home.
